Meet Tony

Tony James is a guru with over 20 yrs of experience at Cardrona alone! So it’s fair to say he knows the mountain, the workshop, and his way around a ski or snowboard like the back of his hand.

After working in Japan, Austria, the USA, and Canada, and mentorship with some of the most well-respected international industry experts, including Ryan McDermott (Mono Cera, USA) and Takeshi Nakahara (Bontak, Japan), Tony has refined his workshop skills.

He has trained the workshop crew to ensure your equipment is in safe, wax-stained hands. But don’t take our word for it - pro riders like Will Jackways have been taking their hardware to Tony for years!

Frequently
Asked Questions

A stone grind is a sandstone that grinds a structure pattern into the base of a ski/board. Your desired pattern will change depending on your snow conditions and intended use of ski/board i.e. race, freestyle, or freeride. The structure pattern improves the glide performance of your ski/board by giving the snow a faster way to disperse from your base.

Definitely! We have worked with Cardrona's Park Crew and Park Squad coaches over the years to develop structure patterns that work in freestyle riding scenarios. A stone grind will get you to that sweet spot in the landing or to rail features with shorter run-ups.

Definitely! A recreational rider will appreciate a stone grind on their skis/board - you'll find a smoother and faster glide, plus a flattened base will improve performance.

Absolutely! We recommend stone grinding boards when they are new and not torsionally twisted which happens once they are ridden. Bear in mind they also need more time to stone grind due to their width.

Yes, we have all sorts of patterns for every snow condition. Hard pack, powder, or slush, we have you covered!

Your gear will go through a 5-step process using high-precision Montana equipment to ensure your gear is in tip-top condition;

  • Base Repair

  • Stone Grinding

  • Side Edge Grinding

  • Side Edge Tuning

  • Waxing and Polishing
